Poppy the cute black cat is busy as a quality-control engineer for this synth repair job. From Michael Weeks via Facebook.

Identification of the synth being repaired left as an exercise to the reader.
Perhaps not a synth per se, but still a wonderful moment of cats and music. I especially like that it’s more bluesy than most cat-and-piano jams 😺🎶

Apropos of yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday post, we have a geometrically proportioned CatSynth Pic today. With the balance of colors (red for the Behringer and Focusrite on the left vs the gray on the right) and the stacked keyboard, this could be right out of our architectural series.

Adorable Betty the black cat sits atop a vintage Yamaha CS20m synthesizer. From Edda Jayne Hill via Facebook.
Betty loves the CS20m
And she is certainly in good company! Long before Yamaha’s dominance in the mid-1980s with the DX series of FM synths, they created the CS series of analog subtractive synthesizers. Although similar in topology to other analog synthesizers of the era, they had their own unique sound and character and were prized by many artists.

Our tuxedo friend is obscuring the label for this keyboard, so we invite readers to identify it.

Of course, every day is National Cat Day (or International Cat Day) here at CatSynth. But we are marking the occasion by letting Sam Sam and Big Merp share their own pics. Above, we see Sam Sam in one of her favorite spots in the studio, in front of the Yamaha TX802 and cassette deck. Sam Sam would also like to share her recent studio video.
And lest Big Merp is left out of the fun, here is a pic of him hanging out behind the main modular synth.

This may be the best thing you hear today (besides Sam Sam’s new video on CatSynth TV). From Simon The Magpie via YouTube.

Our week of cats in the studio concludes with the return of Meiko. It looks like she is pretty intent on the knob positions and laptop controls, probably putting together a great mix with her human Charles Whiley.

Pinki shows off a Roland TR-909 drum machine. From Edda Jayne Hill via our Facebook page.
Pinki just hit the start button and is seemingly impressed by the outcome 😁
The TR-909 was a commercial failure compared to its predecessor, the TR-808, but it has since become a prized instrument and commands rather high prices. Many friends even celebrate “909 Day” on the 9th of September. Roland has more recently introduced a TR-09 as part of its Boutique series.

Yoshi (tabby) and Blix (black) are relaxing in the studio. I see a Behringer Deep Mind 12, and Korg R3, Electribe, and Volca Beats. Submitted by Manny Tejeda via our Facebook page.
