Niobium: from iridescent cubes to superconductors and beyond!

An introduction to niobium, a fascinating metallic element with atomic number 41. This video explores the unique characteristics of this transition metal, highlighting its striking similarity to tantalum, and …its application as a superconductor with applications in MRI machines, advanced physics, and more. We also show off our iridescent purple cube of pure niobium.

Damien Olsen: Radio Valhalla | Daily Disc
An exploration of Damien Olsen’s album Radio Valhala, featuring his unique approach to synthesizers and found sound.

We examine the sound design behind this record, where Damien Olsen performs every instrument …
himself, including synthesizers, guitar, and tape loops. The composition builds an abstract mixture of textures, melodies, harmonics and musique concrete that define the listening experience.

The Filternator from Kanawha Music & Art – vintage-inspired resonator
We look at the Filternator from Kanawha Music and Art, a Eurorack module designed to recreate the sound and behavior of vintage high-Q filters or resonators, like those found in …instruments like the Solovox. It’s circuit is based on capacitors and inductors, which can be switched on and off to change the frequency and resonance of the module. It is also passive and doesn’t require any power.

We take a close look at its behavior with a controlled oscillator signal from our trusty Arturia MiniBrute 2, including CV-based mix modulation. We then try it out with an electronic organ sound from our Cherry Audio Blue3.
