A “Thomasson” – an architectural feature that no longer serves a purpose but is still maintained – along the Lyon Street steps in the Pacific Heights section of San Francisco.

Looking in the opposite direction of Zabriskie Point, a view that is, in my opinion, more captivating.


The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. While most share the “postcard images” of the building as a whole, I find its many details to be the most interesting.


Ubehebe Crater, a large volcanic crater in Death Valley National Park. It is about a mile wide and 600 feet deep.
It was about 110 degrees Fahrenheit at the rim of the crater the day I was there, so I did not venture all the way down. But I did explore the rim and will share photos on another day.
