A scene from the exposed lakebed of the mostly-dry Owens Lake. This is the sink of the Owens River, which cuts a valley between the eastern Sierra Nevada and the ranges that separate this valley from the even deeper and dryer Death Valley to the east.
Owens Lake is the location of our latest highway video, which follows California Highway 136 along the northern and eastern sides of the lake.
The landscape is beautiful but also a bit eerie. The highway video is excellent!
Thank you for the trip in a strange landscape.
I do not like dried lakes. It’s a strange sensation of sadness!
Happy WW!
Everything seems so gigantic and vast in the States, our country is nothing compared to it.
By the way: I show today the originally architectural photo from last weeks edit.
Happy WW from Germany 🙂
I’ve been down that stretch of highway. Love that part of the country. Beautiful.
Thank you for hosting the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. ♥
Fascinating! That part of the country is beautiful in its vast expanses. Happy WW!
Great shot.
Great shot that really captures what it’s like out there. I’ve been on Highway 136 before, and I enjoyed your video of it (and your music).
I hope you, Sam Sam, and Big Merp are all doing well. Hugs!
Dried lakes are sad, and a bit frightening, things are changing so fast.
This one has a stark beauty to it, but it’s story is particularly sad. The only inflow is the Owens River, which was tapped by Los Angeles for its water supply, after which the lake dried up. In recent years, more water has been allowed to flow into the lake with the hope of eventually restoring it.
Very beautiful picture. I have been there. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
Lots and lots of lines, I like it!
