  • Weekend Cat Blogging: On the patio

Despite our busy schedule, we at CatSynth make sure to get some time to play outside on the patio.

Luna often just strolls around, but sometimes she seems to really enjoy stretching and rolling around on the (rather dirty) tiles:

Yet she somehow manages to still look clean and sleek and shiny afterwards…

Weekend Cat Blogging #212 will be hosted by Meowza at Mind of Mog.

The Carnival of the Cats will be going up this Sunday at When Cats Attack.

And of course the Friday Ark is at the modulator.

One of my favorite Keyboard Cat videos to date. And it does tie in nicely to my current series on Japan. Consider this scene from a store in Akiabara, Tokyo:

  • Homecoming and Adoption Anniversary

I returned home from China and Japan today. There is still much to relate, from the last stops in Shanghai and Tokyo. But today we pause to recognize that this homecoming on June 10 is also Luna’s adoption anniversary, or “Gotcha Day”.

The timing just worked out so we could both return home to celebrate. But first, it’s time to find a familiar comfortable place to rest.

Please join me in wishing Luna a happy “Gotcha Day.”

  • Suzhou Museum and Zhong Wang Fu

On Saturday morning, I visited the Suzhou Museum. I have been in the area around the museum, which includes the old canals and the Humble Administrator’s Garden, but never had the time until now to venture inside.

The museum is more a culture and heritage museum than an art museum. Its collection is primarily traditional Chinese items, though it does have a contemporary art wing as well. For me, however, the main attraction was the building itself. It was designed by the architect I. M. Pei, whose family has long resided in Suzhou.

The museum’s architecture incorporates the shapes and elements the adjacent traditional gardens and palaces, including its own gardens, pools and rockeries, but stripping away the ornaments and focusing on the lines and geometry. This extends to the interior as well:

Overall, the architecture and design of the museum was quite photogenic, and readers should look for more examples in future photo series, and of course “Wordless Wednesday.”

One exhibit recreated a traditional Chinese study, and suggest that traditional elements of Chinese design can fit very easily into a modern context:

I wish my office looked like that.

I did take some time to see a few of the traditional artifacts, including several examples of animal figures such as this black-and-white jade cat:

Before the new museum building opened in 2006, it was housed in the neighboring Zhong Wang Fu, a traditional Chinese mansion with gardens and courtyards. The grounds and buildings have been restored and remain open to the public:

One can observe which elements were incorporated into the new building, and which ones were not.

  • CatSynth pic: DJ Kikovas, with DJ Vivi Pedraglio

Today we feature recent photos from our friends in Argentina, DJ Kikovas and Vivi Pedraglio.

A self described “lady-beatmaker”, Vivi Pedraglio continues to create her live electronic music (with Kikovas’ assistantance) and perform in Buenos Aires and elsewhere. She has also been using an intriguing instrument, the kaolimba. You can hear more of her music at her website or MySpace.

Spot the kitty in the picture?

Carbon111 is the author of the CatSynth motivational posters we presented back in February.

In the studio revamp post, they also have a “comfy chair” picture that reminds me of Luna curled up in her favorite chair here at CatSynth HQ.

And it looks like carbon111 recently completed a track entitled Luna.

  • Weekend Cat Blogging #205

Luna can be quite talkative and affectionate, as can be seen in this video:

She is always quite eager to greet me when I arrive home after work or a day out.

Weekend Cat Blogging #205 is being hosted by LB and BreadChick. LB isn’t lonely when BreadChick goes to work right now, because he has “mama breadchick” to keep him company. I sometimes think Luna might enjoy some company, as I am out and about so much these days.

The Bad Kitty Cats Festival of Chaos will be hosted by Samantha and Mr. Tigger at Life from a Cat’s Perspective.

The Carnival of the Cats will be up this Sunday at…wow, it’s also Samantha and Mr. Tigger! Go figure.

And of course the Friday Ark is at the modulator.
