A firewheel flower (Gaillardia pulchella) in a vacant lot in our district of San Francisco.

    The flowers are so beautiful, but I do not understand why
    it’s not a ‘carpet’ with them!

      It’s a vacant lot that was formerly a commercial site, so probably not the most hospitable ground. This particular type of flower is very hardy and can pretty much grow anywhere in the drier parts of the US.
