Looks rather like large rectangular stepping stones
They are in fact large rectangular stepping stones. This was taken in Jessie Square, the plaza in front of the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco.

I like this interpretation of the crosswalk. Not an ordinary journey there, I’d say. Beautiful photo.
