Virginals use the same plucking mechanism for the springs as standard harpsichords, but usually only have one string per key, and lay them out transversely in a rectangular case like we see with Ron’s keyboard above.

I’d never seen a virginal before, at least not as far as I know. Fascinating how many different instruments there are in the world.
