This time Mimì is posing with a Yamaha DX200. This was one of the last of the Yahama FM synths, and the first one to add filters, a built-in sequencer and rhythm, and other features we usually associate with a modern stand-alone synthesizer instrument.

This was a blind shot — I held my camera with my left hand, pointed it in NNS' general direction, and hoped for a good shot. This one came out surprisingly well, considering.

As we have often observed, cats seem to enjoy hiding in equipment racks. Gabriel, the cat featured in this photo, is no exception.
I remember first encountering a Roland JP-8080 at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) show in 1998. Ironically, I had just presented a paper on simulation of analog synthesizer waveforms and filters. I of course wanted to buy one after playing it – but in the years since I never did.
