Adorable Betty the black cat sits atop a vintage Yamaha CS20m synthesizer. From Edda Jayne Hill via Facebook.
Betty loves the CS20m
And she is certainly in good company! Long before Yamaha’s dominance in the mid-1980s with the DX series of FM synths, they created the CS series of analog subtractive synthesizers. Although similar in topology to other analog synthesizers of the era, they had their own unique sound and character and were prized by many artists.

Our week of cats in the studio concludes with the return of Meiko. It looks like she is pretty intent on the knob positions and laptop controls, probably putting together a great mix with her human Charles Whiley.

Bisou joins us from France today in a very tidy studio. We at CatSynth are quite impressed with the plastic covers – and should probably consider getting those for our space. Beneath the covers, we do espy an Arturia MiniBrute 2, several offerings from Korg, and more.

Pinki shows off a Roland TR-909 drum machine. From Edda Jayne Hill via our Facebook page.
Pinki just hit the start button and is seemingly impressed by the outcome 😁
The TR-909 was a commercial failure compared to its predecessor, the TR-808, but it has since become a prized instrument and commands rather high prices. Many friends even celebrate “909 Day” on the 9th of September. Roland has more recently introduced a TR-09 as part of its Boutique series.

“Up for grabs is a super ultra rare bend by the infamous Tablebeast.
To my knowledge he only did twp bends on this particular Casio model and the other keyboard went to Trent Reznor’s studio during the With Teeth sessions, or at least that is the story Jesse Savage told me. He sent this to me as part reparations for a custom amp project that went seriously wrong (ie never delivered).
Own one of these rare gems, its got glitch soul for days, nothing like it.”
Sadly, the auction is long over. But many other opportunities for glitchiness await…
