Cats with Yamaha SK30 and Korg Polysix

An adorable photo of a mother and kitten on a Yamaha SK30. Above them is a Korg Polysix, and off to the right is a Roland Juno. From Frank Jacobs via Facebook.

My cuties love analog, too.

The SK30 was a combination organ, string, and subtractive synthesizer, released in 1980. All of the SK series had the organ and string sections, but different models had different synthesizer sections. The SK30 had two synthesizer sections, a dual-oscillator polyphonic section that was good at classic pads, and a solo monosynth section with multiple waveforms, envelope and filter. As a bonus, one could play the solo synth and one of the other modes (organ, string, polysynth) at the same time.

CatSynth Pic: Loki, Novation Bass Station, Korg Poly 800

Loki finds the purrfect spot on a Korg Poly 800 in front of a Novation Bass Station. From the thedigitalpurrgatory on Instagram.

Loki the Cat distracting me, once again, just after setting the synths for a jam.

You can see Loki’s previous appearances on CatSynth here.

The Novation Bass Station is quite a popular instrument at the moment, an analog mono bass synth in the spirit of Moog past and present, and in someways similar to the Arturia MiniBrute 2 that we use here at CatSynth studios. The Poly 800 is a small vintage synthesizer, a transition from Korg’s earlier “Mono/Poly” classic into their instruments of the 1980s. I was actually interested in the later Poly 800ii though never acquired one.

CatSynth Pic: Casio in Bedroom Studio (Korg, iPad Pro)

Casio the tabby cat finds a comfy spot in this cozy bedroom studio. By Kris Nicholson via Facebook.

This little bedside studio is designed for me not to get out of bed and it’s not just a little music studio but also I can create my computer animations using Poser.

I’m using a Korg microSTATION Music Workstation and iPad Pro loaded with music apps and synthesizer apps and also you can see my cat her name is Casio.

CatSynth Video: Cat Sound Bath Research #3

Beautiful and hypnotic “sound path” performance from Kamal Sabran. The kitten seems very relaxed and content listening to it, as do I.

We see an Arturia Microbrute, Kaoss pad, and a wide variety of items including a classic reel-to-reel tape recorder, circuit toys, analog oscilloscope, and more. You can see a previous post from Kamal Sabran here.

CatSynth Video: Drum Machines, MicroBrute, Kaoss Pad and more

This has to be one of the sweetest things we have seen in a long time! From our friend Kamal Sabran via Facebook. We see a young man and young cat, who clearly love one another, playing a drum machine. There is also an Arturia MicroBrute, a Korg Kaoss Pad, and some cool retro devices including a reel-to-reel tape recorder and analog oscilloscope.

CatSynth Pic: Korg MS2000

Handsome black cat with a Korg MS2000 synthesizer. From our friend synthguy216 on Instagram, who asks “why so serious?”

The MS2000 is in the lineage of Korg’s MS-20 and MS-50, but uses analog modeling, and offers 4-voice polyphony. It was released in 2000, and combines the MS-style mix of pre-wired patching with very accessible real-time knob controls and a patching matrix via the LCD screen. There is also the MS2000R rackmount version.

CatSynth Pic: Merce, Jomox Resonator Neuronium, MicroKORG, and Fluxus

Our friend Merce joins us again, with the Jomox Resonator Neuronium along with the MicroKORG. He also shares this classic Fluxus piano piece by George Brecht.

When you can’t even get a Fluxus piece right. George Brecht, “3 Piano Pieces,” from Water Yam, 1962

Even we at CatSynth sometimes find it hard to Fluxus right in these anxious times.
